The Ardbeg Caesar for National Caesar Day
Who doesn’t love a delicious Caesar? I can honestly say that I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love a Caesar!
Maybe it’s that it’s just a great drink to enjoy when the warmer spring weather hits or maybe it’s the fact that the Caesar is known as the Canadian cocktail of choice, but this year I am just excited to have a reason to drink one (or three) of these babies to celebrate National Caesar Day!
Taking place tomorrow, May 19th, National Caesar Day is the perfect time to gather your Caesar loving friends and throw together a quick celebration and make a delicious Caesar recipe. Traditionally made with vodka, the Caesar is prepared in a number of different ways, but recently, I’ve discovered a new brand that has really changed the Caesar game for me.
For this recipe, I’ll be calling it ‘The Ardbeg Caesar’.
Rightfully named, this Caesar recipe is made with the world’s peatiest and smokiest single malt whisky – Ardbeg. Coincidently, the month of May is not only special for Caesars, but for Ardbeg as well. May 28th marks Ardbeg Day where every year, the Islay Festival of Malt and Music takes place in May or June on Ardbeg’s island home. On the Festival’s final Saturday, Ardbeg Day, the Distillery traditionally throws open its doors to welcome fans from all over the world. Since 2012 when Ardbeg Day went global, the celebration has spread to 15,000 people who attended 135 events around the world at the 2015 Ardbeg Day global celebrations.
This year however, the shadowy history of Ardbeg’s homeland will be recalled as part of the annual celebration of the Islay single malt, when Ardbeg Day becomes Ardbeg Night which you can read more about here.
I’ll personally be celebrating the Ardbeg Day festivities with a tasting of Ardbeg’s latest limited edition Ardbeg Dark Cove.
Its nose is at first meaty, earthy and spicy, with bold notes of dark chocolate emerging against orange, treacle toffee, coffee and oak, a smoky background and a mysterious floral note. The mouthfeel is almost tart, with raisins, dates, ginger and pepper spice surge and waves of smouldering charcoal, wood polish and creosote notes, leading to cured smoked ham and squid ink noodles. The finish is long, spicy and rich with notes of toffee, coffee and tar.
Two reasons to celebrate with a Caesar and Ardbeg is fine by me! Ready to make a great Caesar? Find ‘The Ardbeg Recipe’ here”
